With each year that goes by, Hua Hin continues to slowly shed its reputation as “only” a sleepy seaside town, becoming more and more popular as a weekend getaway that can be whatever you want it to be. Look in the right places and you’ll find this sandy city brimming with energy. From trendy cafes and bustling markets to vibrant nightlife, Hua Hin has quietly blossomed into one of Thailand's most appealing coastal destinations—especially for weekend getaways from Bangkok. The team at BK recently paid (another) visit a few weeks ago, and here’s what we found.
Where to Eat

Long-time Hua Hin visitors already know Matapita Cafe as a gentle beachside enclave famous for its vintage charm. First-timers should go for the rose-and-lychee cheesecake paired perfectly with jasmine-pandan tea. It’s the kind of clean-feeling but obviously indulgent combination that weekend getaways are all about.
If you are more in the health-conscious, Bali-vibe headspace, Pineapple Cafe is a sun-soaked hideaway decked out in tropical vibes and boho-chic decor—perfect for those in search of a chilled-out brunch.
A non-optional visit on your next trip is Aow-Takiab Seafood. Here, seafood arrives on your plate from fishing boats that dock just a few dozen meters away—the crab-loaded omelet and stir-fried squid in salted-egg sauce are your go-tos here.
You don’t just have to enjoy beachfront eats at wobbly wooden tables, though. Chay Had offers a slick, minimalist interior with natural wood finishes, soft lighting, and open-air seating to get the most out of that oceanfront breeze. There is a lot to unpack here, but the Thai-tea creme brulee is a go-to thanks to its layers of silky local tea custard beneath a crisp caramelized top.

When it comes to a go-to beachfront base,
Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa checks all the boxes. The location puts you within walking distance of markets, restaurants, and the city’s main beach. Rooms offer sea views and private balconies, while the sprawling pool area, fitness center, and spa provide plenty of options for unwinding. The property also houses several restaurants and bars, including a rooftop spot with sweeping coastal views. Whether you’re visiting as a couple or with family in tow, Hilton Hua Hin delivers comfort, accessibility, and everything you need for a stress-free weekend.
What to Do

There’s more to Hua Hin than sand and sea. If you’re looking to take it easy, grab a seat at Air Space Hua Hin or 1d+ Day Artist, two relaxed beachside cafes that are ideal for catching up on a book or lingering over an iced coffee. Both offer plenty of shaded outdoor seating and views of the shoreline without the crowds. Everyday shopping happens at Blueport Mall, with a mix of international retailers, small local brands, and the mercy of oh-so-cool air-conditioning. The food court upstairs is decent for a quick bite, and there’s even a cinema if you need an afternoon out of the sun. Come evening, head to the Cicada Market for open-air stalls selling handmade crafts, art, and accessories. It’s tourist-friendly, but with enough interesting finds and live performances to make it worth the stop. Nearby, Hua Hin’s central Night Market is more utilitarian—fewer frills, more food. Expect grilled seafood, clothing, and the usual mix of souvenirs in a classic Thai night market setting.
Where to Drink

Craft beer enthusiasts head straight to MyCraft Beer Bar, known for its well-curated selection of Thai and international craft brews, with knowledgeable staff happy to recommend favorites. If rooftop views and expertly mixed cocktails are more your style, climb to White Lotus Rooftop Bar at the Hilton Hua Hin, where the sophisticated ambiance meets breathtaking seaside vistas—easily some of the best you’ll find in the area. Hua Hin might have a sleepy reputation, but there's a lively and occasionally rowdy nightlife to be found on Soi Bintabat. Expect street food favorites like pad Thai and somtam, cold beers from vibrant pubs, and live music spilling from bars into the street. Budget-conscious visitors often hit nearby Soi 80 for cheaper drinks before joining the main action on Bintabat.
