Make some noise!

Providing young people (that’s anyone under 35) with the platforms to showcase their creativity and connect with the arts since 2005, this edition of Noise Singapore returns with programmes co-developed with Band of Doodlers, iMMERSiVELY, Invasion Singapore, Ownself Records and The Unusual Network. With Noise activities all set to go full swing in the coming weeks, here’s what you can look forward to in the month of March.

A diverse array of performances as part of the Noise Music Mentorship

Led by Ownself Records—a label founded by Singaporean music personality Vanessa Fernandez aka Vandetta—a group of young aspiring musicians have been hard at work for close to three months under the mentorship programme. Mentored by artists such as DJ KoFlow, Saiful Idris, weish, Inch Chua, Tim De Cotta, Sara Wee, Tay Kewei, Sai Akilesh and featuring a wide range of music genres such as R&B, soul, jazz, hip-hop, indie, folk, rock, EDM and more. 20 music acts will perform their original music at a two-day showcase at Plaza Singapura. There’s one weekend plan sorted.

Mar 16-17, 3pm to 10pm, Outdoor Front Plaza, Plaza Singapura

Trainspotting and journeys are more colourful with Noise Local Motif

The aptly named illustration community Band of Doodlers has teamed up young illustrative aspirants with beneficiaries from social service organisations such as the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) and SPD to deck out two Downtown Line trains with illustrative designs. With the theme “Connecting People, Correcting Perceptions”, the Noise Local Motif mentorship programme allows youth participants to express themselves through stories centring on happiness, garden city, food and playtime, while connecting with their peers from other communities.

Mar 22–Apr 19, Downtown MRT Line

Catch the UNSCENE at Noise Invasion Festival

With a pun on what is not seen, Invasion Singapore, specialising in youth programmes and campaigns, definitely know more than a thing or two about planning an awesome event. The Noise Invasion Festival, to be held at the eighth floor carpark of Parklane Shopping Mall, is exactly that. Be spoilt for choice by the multi-disciplinary activities at the festival from street art and interactive art installations to live music and dance performances. Even if you can’t make it in person, catch the live stream of the festival on Instagram @noiseinvasionfest.

Mar 23, 5.30pm to 10pm, 8th floor carpark, Parklane Shopping Mall

Time loops await at Noise GIF Fest

GIFs are undoubtedly among the best forms of expression when it comes to online communication (an eye-roll emoji just can’t compare to a dismissive Judge Judy or Robert Downey Jr) so it’s about time this popular medium gets showcased through an immersive digital art exhibition. Organized by art curators and content creators, The Unusual Network, the Noise GIF Fest is the place to be. Spend your time at Block 7 of Gillman Barracks with more than 100 gifs to play and interact with at the free-entry exhibition. With workshops and artist talks to participate in, you’ll have a chance to be a creator too.

Mar 28–Apr 1, daily 12pm to 10pm, except Sun 10am–8pm Block 7, Gillman Barracks
