For international festivals, Bangkok has had some big news recently, from Tomorrowland to Wonderfruit and Rolling Loud. But if you’re hankering for a big music festival that is a little bit more Thai and held in the mountains of Khao Yai, the Big Mountain Music Festival announced their acts last week featuring more than 100 artists across 14 stages.
To be held from Dec 6-7, there’s an important distinction to be made between festivals people go to for the acts and those who go because they love music. The BMMF15 is decidedly the latter.
The festival transcends genres and you’re just as likely to hear some classic folk as some pop or country music. Held at The Ocean Khao Yai, this annual event brings together local up-and-comers for one of the biggest concerts in the area.
Stages are broken up into broad acts you’d like to see so you don’t have to go running back and forth between stages in the Thailand heat—we’re looking at you, Rolling Loud—so fans of T-pop and J-pop can scope out the Cow Stage and Block stage, and those who like Morlam and Luk Thung can camp out at the Rumwong Bar.
As always, there will be plenty of fare in the food zones, and if you want the proper festival experience, there are camping zones. This year, they’re also teasing a drone show and a giant cow installment for folks to take pictures.
However, you can also rent a mobile home to stay in for B45,000, which includes four VIP tickets to go with your fridge, air conditioner, microwave, and private toilet and shower—worth their weight in gold at a festival. There is also the rentable Ferris Ville option that includes meals.
Tickets will go on
sale next week on Sep 5-7 for the “early cow” tickets, starting at B2,000, and VIP tickets go on sale the same day for B4,000.
