Long a relaxed favorite for alfresco coffee in the cooler months, Bangkok Trading Post is stepping into a new chapter concept-wise, and it's more than just brunch. Tucked inside the leafy grounds of 137 Pillars Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 39, the all-day venue, which has pet-friendly outdoor seating, has rolled out a new concept, and wider dining philosophy, that brings a tinge of creative polish to its roots while still keeping things approachable.
The setting hasn’t changed, and that’s part of the appeal. The colonial-style tiling, towering shelves lined with vintage explorer gear, and oversized windows flooding the space with natural light still define the room’s warm, inviting character. Outside, the garden remains a major draw—shaded, pet-friendly, and dotted with koi ponds, mature greenery, and low-set seating that encourages lingering. What has evolved is the kitchen’s ambition, with a more focused yet imaginative menu that smoothly transitions from casual daytime bites to refined evening plates.
A day-to-night approach
The kitchen’s updated concept, dubbed “Creative Classics,” builds on familiar Western comfort dishes with small twists and an emphasis on detail. The “Beefy English Breakfast” (B700) is a hearty starting point: grilled beef tenderloin, fried egg, portobello mushrooms, pork sausage, bacon, avocado, and béarnaise sauce all on one plate. Or there’s the smoked salmon eggs benedict on a croissant (B450), which brings buttery pastry into the brunch equation, served with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus, and tomatoes.
Lighter plates hold their own, too. The “Honeyed Hamper” (B400) is a grilled honey bacon sandwich on herbed focaccia, topped with parmesan and onion relish. And if you’re after something sweet to go with your morning coffee, the in-house bakery is still very much part of the identity here, turning out fresh pastries daily.
Evenings take a more bistro turn
As the day moves on, so does the tone of the concept. The restaurant’s evening offerings elevate the experience without losing the casual spirit. The rib eye steak (B1,700) arrives fully dressed—with sautéed potatoes, mushrooms, baked spinach, garlic confit, grilled tomatoes, and Yorkshire pudding, all plated alongside house pepper sauce and herb butter.
There are playful notes as well. The “Pizza Patatosa” (B500) is topped with creamy mashed potatoes, French fries, and melted cheese makes for a comfort-food hybrid that makes you wonder why no one else has tried this before. Meanwhile, the beef bolognese crab fettuccine (B600) goes richer and more layered, mixing slow-cooked beef in a tomato sauce with crab meat and ikura.
On the sweet side, the passionfruit vanilla crème brûlée baba au rum (B300) is a fitting closer. Rum-soaked and citrus-forward, it balances richness with a light finish. It’s easy to pair with a post-dinner one of the venue’s newly introduced signature cocktails.
An all-day spot that actually works all day
Bangkok Trading Post has always worn the all-day dining label well, but the new concept makes it feel more complete. You can just as easily come for a mid-morning croissant as you can for a relaxed dinner. The beverage program, which now includes craft cocktails and a curated wine list, gives the space more flexibility, while the steady rhythm of the service keeps things relaxed.
That said, this is not a place trying to do too much. The menu is focused and considered, with an emphasis on homemade touches and a “quality over quantity” ethos. The bakes are made in-house. The offerings, though diverse, don’t sprawl. It’s less about statement dining and more about small, well-executed ideas with just enough originality to keep you looking down the menu.
This is a subtle evolution rather than a full reinvention. Bangkok Trading Post is still the low-key garden restaurant it’s always been, but with a sharper focus and clearer identity. From brunch classics and house bakes to plated mains and cocktails, it now reads more like a destination, morning to night, than a brunch-only favorite.
