Iron Balls - The Parlor, which is a conjunction of some of the city’s most beloved nightlife venues including Gigi Ristorante and Sing Sing, decided to shake things up last Thursday with the launch of their new cocktail menu.
As venues go, Iron Balls is a bit of a classic, an early night hang that can easily double as a date spot before hitting the attached Sing Sing Theater for a spot of clubbing, and now they’re going in for a nautical theme for their new cocktails.
Under the auspices of an old sea dog discovering his “Salty Ledger”. The leather bound new physical menu is pretty adorable, and does actually take on the look of a ship’s ledger. This new menu, which also celebrated their seven years on the scene, replaces their previous menu broken down into the elements of Velvet, Glass, and Iron.
As you play quartermaster, perusing the new drinks, you’ll find cocktails that run the gamut in both flavor and geography, but the important thing about Iron Balls - The Parlour to remember is that this is a bar for drinking. While a lot of these drinks use some high-end mixology methods, this is, first and foremost, a place to party, so go expecting DJs and occasional live accompaniment.
This is Iron Balls, so you might expect the gin to take center stage, but the menu really does have some breadth. The Brooklyn Bridge is one for the whiskey drinkers featuring a mix of cynar and sweet vermouth with tonka bean and hazelnut, topped with some smoked cinnamon. It’s pretty spirit-forward, but highly drinkable.
The Salty Sailor is a bit more familiar and local with Chalong Bay rum mixed with a grapefruit blend and pomelo syrup with guava, with a nice little touch of CO2 to give the drink a little drama.
The Deck Tease (we see what you did there) is another spirit forward option with vermouth bianco bringing out the vodka mixed with lychee and lemon, and, to polish it off, a little rose tea float. The Nippon Harbour comes to us from Japan with Hojicha gin pushing through the passionfruit and pandan.
You’ll find nautical notes in and often on your glass, with most new cocktails on this menu come with an OTT garnish that will be a big hit for the Insta.
After seven years, Iron Balls - The Parlour refuses to sit on its laurels. The regulars love it here, and, with Gigi and Sing Sing in the wings, if you want to unseat this spot as the Phrom Phong place to be, good luck
