R&B history-making heartthrob Jay Sean will be performing live

The time has come once again for taxi drivers to complain about the numerous road closures in the city center, and for commuters to pull their hair out because of bus route detours. An inconvenience for some, the F1 Singapore Grand Prix—while a sporting event of the year for a certain board’s calendar—may mean many other things to non-sports fans. Sure, this year’s entertainment line-up is pretty sick, but we’re all about the afterparties. And this year, Zouk is where you’ll want to be all weekend (Sep 14-16).

Singapore’s favorite nightlife institution has really stepped up their game and gone full throttle this year with Checkpoint. And while we’re living to flag off the night’s revelries of 8-bit video game realness—think Pacman, Tetris and King Kong—with resident veteran Hong’s bi-monthly CODE on Sep 14, an octane-fuelled set by Dutch house DJ-producer extraordinaire R3hab and Capital’s #throwback to the ‘90s music series Total Recall on Sep 15, we’re looking forward to R&B singer-songwriter Jay Sean’s one-night-only live performance at Capital to bring it all the way home on the last day (Sep 16) of Zouk’s F1 soiree.

You may not remember this, but this British hotshot made his debut as one of the guys of the Rishi Rich Project back in 2003, with a hit number that led him to be signed to Virgin Records as a solo artist. While he did rake up a couple of UK top 10 hits in 2004, he eventually left Virgin two years later and took a gap year after.

But it wasn't until 2009 that he got his big break. His highly infectious, super-dancey single, which made everyone go "down, down, down, down, down" that year, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed in the top 10 for the next six weeks. With that, he became the first UK urban act to make it on the Hot 100. Be prepared for a full repertoire of familiar tunes like “Eyes On You”, “Ride It” and “Do You Remember”, as well as more recent bangers like “Thinking About You” with Hardwell, and “What You Want” with Davido.

And to make it even sweeter, the first 100 guests, as well as the first 100 DBS and American Express card members (before 1am) will enjoy complimentary entry. Thereafter, entry is $20 after midnight, inclusive of one standard house pour.

For more information on all the parties, race onto Zouk Singapore’s site and follow them on Facebook to get all the latest.
