Everyone who lives or works in Phrom Phong or Thonglor will tell you that the really cool spots are well off the main roads and deep into the winding back alleyways. If you want to settle down in this area, best to find a spot out of the way, but still close enough to the action to make the best out of Bangkok’s poshest hoods. You’re in luck, we have a soi for you: Promsri. Walking distance from BTS Phrom Phong, but still also kind of on the edge of Thonglor. Here’s a peek at the neighboorhood.

You are really getting the best of both Thonglor and Phrom Phong here. Peace Oriental Tea House is one of our go-to tea spots (they make some of the best artisanal ice cream in Bangkok). You can basically have your pick of amazing Japanese restaurants, and if you want to splurge in that department head over to Sushi Masato nearby. Brainwake Café just a few minutes from the main Soi Promsri is probably the best way to get your brain in gear during the week. If you want some really good Thai food options (we’re talking dine-in, not all the great food stalls smattered around) then Bo.lan is in the neighborhood—and it’s looking better than ever these days after the additions of Bo.lan Grocer, Err and the new chef’s table concept. Another must-try, Sri Trat, is a venue BK has loved for years and one of the only places in town to get real-deal eastern Thai food in a dine-in setting (they make some decent drinks, too). Speaking of knocking some back, all the typical Thonglor options are within reach—12 x 12 Bar, Sway if you want a bit of clubbing, 008 Bar for a fine cocktail (or four). If you want to knock back some cold ones, try the hidden 2+4 Bar on the back side of EmQuartier. It’s a bit of a challenge to find, but the folks over at our sister publication, Coconuts Bangkok, have you covered there.

So, obviously, EmQuartier is going to be the easiest shopping option nearby. There are a couple of little shops scattered around nearby, but you are probably going to be doing the majority of you pick-ups at the mammoth malls by the BTS station. If you have the beans in your wallet and an eye or expensive fashion, brands like Armani Exchange, Club 21, Kate Spade, Alexander Wang, Maison Kitsune, Moschino, and Zara give you plenty of options to dump some cash. There’s an Adidas Originals if streetwear is more your thing. If you need a shiny new pair of speakers or a sparkling TV set, Sound City and Sony on the 3rd floors have you covered.

Thing to Do

If you are one of those folks who loves to wander through art galleries and check out the latest openings, SAC Gallery—one of the biggest and fanciest privately-owned galleries in town—is just a stone’s throw away from Soi Promsri. It’s currently showing a retrospective exhibition of late French artist Valérie Goutard, who famously partnered with NGO New Haven to place a sculpture under the water in Koh Tao for coral reefs to live on. It’s not just big galleries, though. Down the street close to BTS Thonglor is WTF Gallery & Café. If you’re looking for a little bit more physical exercise, then Siam Strength is a boutique exercise gym focusing on strength training, and if you need something a little more hi-so then The Racquet Club is where you can get your tennis game on.  Care to drink and paint?
