Sweet, savory, and smoothies from the minds behind Iode and Scuba.
Tucked into the narrow Soi Sribumphen off Rama IV in the increasingly hip area by Yen Akat, Kraz is a charming new crêperie channeling equal parts French bistro and Melbourne hipster alley café energy. Open for just four months, this bright, bar-style venue is already drawing a loyal crowd with its niche focus: authentic Breton galettes and crepes, done with flair.

Housed in a renovated shophouse with an airy, two-level layout, Kraz seats about 15 at its cozy counter, perfect for solo diners or lazy brunchers catching the kitchen action, and a handful of tables scattered downstairs and up in the loft. The star of the show is the galette: a crispy, gluten-free buckwheat crepe traditionally from Brittany, France.

There are nine savoury options, with highlights like The Complète (B390), packed with smoked ham, egg, comté cheese, and jalapeños. More adventurous types can spring for the Iode (B450), featuring smoked trout, sour cream, ikura, onion pickles, and a citrusy sudachi lift.

The sweet crepe menu is just as compelling, starting with the classic butter and sugar (B140) and peaking with a mezcal-spiked citrus number (B490) layered with blood orange, grapefruit, and kumquat. Non-crepe offerings include soft-serve with salted caramel and peanuts (B200), chocolate mousse, and a compact brunch menu (9am–4pm) with yogurt and granola, omelets, steak and eggs, and a nod to the UK via the humble Scotch egg.

One of the more unique beverage angles here is the cider list, a welcome break from the usual wine-dominated menus. Expect two by the glass (both French apple, B190) and ten by the bottle, ranging from crisp apple, pear, and grape blends, and priced between B790 and B1,890. If that’s not your thing, there are fresh smoothies, juices, and a few kombuchas to keep the health crowd happy.

Owned by Chef Frank le Bayon, from the successful French bistro Iode, Kraz is a love letter to his hometown in Brittany. Even the name is a nod to the region: kraz means crispy in Breton, referring to the golden texture of a perfect galette. The food might be flat, but it’s deceptively filling, one crepe and one smoothie will keep most diners satisfied till sundown.

Design-wise, the retro orange branding and open kitchen make a bold first impression. The vibe is warm and groovy, the kind of place where regulars are on a first-name basis with the staff. And with neighbors like trendy izakaya ICHI NI SAN, the delightful Tom's Cafe, umeshu and sake bar Prum Plum, and Wong’s Place (yes, that Wong’s), this is one of Bangkok’s more intriguing food and drink enclaves.
